AVOIDANCE & ENERGY DRAIN

Trying to avoid certain thoughts and feelings can be exhausting and can leave us feeling inadequate and without confidence. However, there are ways to navigate these challenges and use our thoughts and emotions as fuel for our energy.

Acknowledging Thoughts and Feelings: Our thoughts and emotions are designed to get our attention, and when we acknowledge them, we can begin to process them in a healthy way. This can help us avoid the drain of energy that comes from trying to avoid and deny our thoughts and feelings.

Recognizing the Need for Balance: While it’s natural to want to avoid pain, both physical and emotional, it’s important to recognize when we’re spending too much energy trying to control our thoughts and emotions. This can lead us to neglect the things that matter to us and our well-being.

Intentional Energy Allocation: By intentionally directing some of our energy towards the things we value, we can create space for our thoughts and feelings to process naturally. This can help us regain our coping, capability, and confidence.

Daily Planning and Adjustment: Each day, we can help ourselves by planning to use our energy towards what personally matters to us. We can also adjust our energy focus as needed to accommodate what is happening at the moment. Our best one day is not the same as on another.

Patience and self-compassion are key ingredients. We unconsciously build these behaviours and it takes practice and the progress is incremental, not obvious, and worth it.
